A few ONLY IN ISRAEL moments for westbankmama.............
1. Went shopping last week cuz as a Floridian, I have made aliyah with a less than suitable winter wardrobe. I had a brief only in israel moment when I saw a woman trying on a bra over her clothes in the lingerie department!! hee he
2. Shortly after, I found a few things and took them into the dressing room to try them on. I was in there only briefly when on the radio loudspeaker I heard the theme to the LOVE BOAT!!! "Love....exciting and new....come aboard, we're expecting you!!!!" hee hee
3. The intercom in our building is broken, hasn't worked since we moved in Aug. 1st. Come to find out that it has NEVER worked in the 2 years people have lived here!!!
4. One set of neighbors have a back door that leads out into the communal parking garage. We call them the family that lives in the garage, like how Harry Potter lived under the stairs. Anyway, only in israel..........it is completely normal for them to do a sponga (the mop thing with the rag) in their home and always pour the bucket out of their backdoor, flooding the floor of the garage!
5. Unheard of in the U.S.---a mom from the Gan (kindergarten), in the first or second week of school called and invited herself and 2 of her 3 kids over for a playdate and a coffee. "You don't need to fuss or anything, just make me a coffee when I come. My daughter wants to play at your house." hee hee She is now one of my closest friends, but it was very odd for me when she called that day. I'm glad she did though!
6. Only in Israel do the bus drivers open their doors after closing them to leave a bus stop if they see someone running late towards the tachana (bus stop).
7. Only in Israel does the children's channel on tv (HOP!) run features for the jewish holidays and break for Yom Kippur.
I'm sure there are many many more ONLY IN ISRAEL moments that I could come up with, but I'll stop here. If you haven't noticed, half of my blogging is about those type of moments to begin with!!! Thanks though wbmama for the nudge, always fun to have reason behind posts! :)
